“They destroyed my studio and made me homeless! After all that I became very concerned with the state of China. My work is really an expression of my concern.”
Liu Bolin is an artist from Beijing who is also known as the “invisible man”. His series “Hiding in the City” began after his home (which was also his studio) was destroyed under the pretext of Olympic redevelopment in 2005. Hundreds of other artists living in his neighborhood Suojicun were also left homeless. Liu Bolin painted his entire body in a grey, red and white camouflage and stood amongst the wreckage to take the above photo. Click here for more info and an interview.
